Start with a browser-supported session
Paste a public source into the Online YouTube Player and begin playback before locking the device. Screen-off behavior is controlled by a combination of the browser, Android version, battery settings, audio focus, and the original source. It is not a setting that every web player can guarantee.
Check Android battery controls
If playback stops when the screen turns off, first make sure the browser is not restricted by battery-saving settings. Keep the browser updated and test again with one public video. Try the same source on Wi-Fi and cellular data to separate a network interruption from a background-playback policy.
Use audio-only mode when available
When a source and browser support it, an audio-focused session can be a better fit for listening. Start playback in the foreground, then lock the screen. If it stops, return to the tab and check whether Android has paused the browser, the network changed, or the source became unavailable.
Troubleshoot one variable at a time
Test another public source, then a private browser window or a different supported browser. Our playback stopping checklist gives the practical order of checks. For a defined listening end, use the YouTube Sleep Timer rather than relying on the device to stop playback by itself.
